The Knights of Columbus from Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, conducted their annual Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities (CPID) during September and October.

Knights and their ladies, wearing bright yellow vests, solicited donations at seven Hot Springs Village locations on the first Friday and Saturday of October. Over 5,000 Villagers donated $7,307 during this two-day effort.  111 volunteers stood two-hours or more collecting donations at the Village gates and business locations. All donors received a “Tootsie Roll” gratuity as a thank you from the Knights.  This two-day “Tootsie Roll” portion of the Knight’s campaign was only the “tip of the iceberg” of this fundraising campaign.

During September, nine Knights visited 84 local area businesses, explaining the purpose of the campaign and asking for contributions. As in past years, most of the banks and businesses contacted generously supported this worthy cause.  They donated $8,758. Some businesses also provided gift certificates or other non-monetary contributions.  In appreciation for these many business supporters, The Village Voice newspaper ran a two-page thank you advertisement that recognized these business donors.  The Knights also recognized these generous businesses on their website and in their local church’s bulletin.

Council 10208 Knights also asked their 315 members for individual donations.  Knights and Knights’ widows dug deep and contributed an additional $6,585.

In celebration of the success of these many CPID efforts, an “Oktoberfest” dinner took place on the final Saturday of the campaign.  A silent auction at the dinner enabled non-monetary gift-donations to be turned into cash for contribution to the campaigns several charitable recipients.  An additional $2,350 in “Oktoberfest” receipts added to campaign’s final total of $25,000!

The local charities that will benefit from this campaign include the Special Olympics, Arkansas Camp for the Blind, First Step, Abilities Unlimited, The Caring Place, and ARC Arkansas—all which provide services and care for the intellectually challenged neighbors in the local area. One hundred percent of the monies collected will go to recipient charities.

The Daniel Patrick Sullivan Council 10208 of the Knights of Columbus gratefully thanks all the volunteers, Village residents, local businesses, the KVRE Radio Station, and the Village Voice Newspaper for their collective community outreach generosity.
