September Family of the Month Jeff and Cathy Silk
September Family of the Month Jeff and Cathy Silk
Congratulations for being recognized as The Family of the Month of August 2016 by the Knights of this Council.  Here’s a brief recap of Jeff and Kathy’s contributions to our Council, our parish, and our community:

Jeff and Cathy arrived in the Village 18 months ago having lived previously in Baltimore, Guam, New York, Washington D.C., Afghanistan, Thailand, again in Washington D.C., before finally finding our Village!  They immediately joined our parish, nailed down the 1 to 2 A.M. adoration slot on Friday morning for their first year before moving into the 8 to 9 A.M. slot on Saturday’s.  Jeff was late in following his father’s footsteps in becoming a Brother Knight.  Cathy’s father was a Grand Knight and she encouraged Jeff to join our fraternal brotherhood last year.  In 2015 he leapt into the Council activities, volunteered to be the Family Director, and moved to Community Director this year.  While working full-time as Deputy Sherriff of Saline County, recent events have been hectic;  Jeff anticipates he’ll have more time and more involvement with his Brothers in the Council and parish in the coming months and years.

In whatever capacity and activity Jeff is involved in with the Knights, rest assured that Cathy is also taking an active role.  Together they helped with the Mother’s Day celebration, the summer picnic, the 4th of July celebration, the farewell party for the Bodensteiner’s, CPID, the Blind Camp bowling, and the Treasure Sale.  Jeff also helps with our parish breakfasts, while Cathy, an RN, gave flu shots last weekend; she participates in the Bowling League and will soon be a guild member in LOSH.  The parish thrives when families like the Silks arrive, become involved in and committed to doing the charitable worksand volunteer support of those in need.

We are blessed to recognize The Silks as Family of the Month. Congratulations.

Larry and Carol Cruz
Larry and Carol Cruz
Let us all congratulate Larry and Carol Cruz for being honored with our July, 2016 Family of the Month for Council 10208!

For the last 18 or so years Larry and Carol have been our sacristan and right-hand-man taking care of countless details to ensure our daily Mass and services run smoothly, are fully supplied, supported, and efficient.  Always there to arrange the flowers, take care of the alter linen, light candles, hand out fliers, prayer lists, and provide myriad support assistance to all parishioners.  Day in, day out, year after year, Larry and Carol have been the stalwarts in the Narthex and Sanctuary working on Mass preparation and support.

And of course, both are always there, when asked, to support other Knights’ tasks, like Larry selling parish breakfast tickets.  We don’t have a “family of the last decade-and-a-half” award, but if we did, they would deserve it.  Soon they will “retire” from these tasks, and replacing them will be a challenge for the parish, because they are all but irreplaceable.  Thank you so very much for your service.
