Tom Thornton |
Tom is being honored at this time as Knight of the Month not only for his excellent job as Financial Secretary, but also for his extraordinary work in both recruitment of new members and retention of current ones. In addition, his efforts in managing the member data base which is resident at the office of Supreme in New Haven from which the council’s directory is derived has resulted in more accurate information at both levels. Grand Knights are very dependent upon their Financial Secretary, and Tom has been an excellent supporting officer in that role.
His wife, Marge, and Tom met while he was in the Army. They are blessed to have four children and seven grandchildren who still keep them busy. Tom spent 37 years working several different positions in oil refineries. He feels fortunate to have had the opportunities offered by his work.
Tom joined the Knights in 1965 in Corpus Christi, TX, sponsored by two of his uncles whom he has appreciated for their efforts in getting him to join the knights. He became a 4th Degree member here in 2004. Tom has been a member of five councils and has been privileged to have been elected to most of the officer and the director positions over the years.
Council 10208 is probably the most active council in which Tom has been a member, and he sees that as a blessing, since many knights are retired and need to stay active.
Tom and Marge have been involved in all of their parishes. He has served on parish councils, as a mass server, a Eucharistic Minister, and other ministries. Both were active in Marriage Encounter for several years and either started or worked as Welcome Committee coordinators in several parishes, including Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Congratulations and thanks for your many contributions to the vitality of this council.
