Three Council 10208 Candidates Exemplified December 13

Council 10208 hosted a 1st Degree Exemplification Sunday afternoon, December 13, for six candidates from District 10, three of whom are from the local Council whose team conducted the ceremony. Each received a prayer card and a certificate from the Grand Knight recognizing that their exemplification occurred during the Knights of Columbus Year of the Priest. In a great show of support to the new members, there were 15 brother knights in attendance, in addition to the exemplification team.

Eleven Knights Advance to 4th Degree

Eleven Council 10208 Brother Knights became Sir Knights of Assembly 2316 at the 4th degree exemplification held on Sunday, December 6, at St. Boniface Church in New Dixie, AR. There was a total of 26 knights exemplified at the ceremony, so the local council had 42% of the participants.

A Sir Knight since 1952 and an honored guest at the exemplification, Father Vic Bieberle celebrated the mass and gave the homily. Pastor Richard Davis welcomed the knights and concelebrated the mass with Father Vic.

'Helping Hands' Presentation by Mary Costello

Mary Costello and Marilyn Burke attended the December 1 membership meeting with Mary giving an informative presentation about the origin and mission of Helping Hands, a Sacred Heart of Jesus volunteer organization. Currently there are more than 90 volunteers, including 13 Knights, who help fellow parishioners with a variety of services including: 1) transportation; 2) care-giver relief ; 3) shopping assistance; 4) meal preparation; 5) visitations; 6) contacting those on the prayer list; and, 7) buddy phone system.

While more volunteers can always be used, just as important, however, is for everyone to help identify people in need and to report them to either Mary or Marilyn at 922-3915 and 915-8833 respectively, so appropriate services can be offered. In addition to weekly notices in the Bulletin, there are sign-up and information forms in the Narthex.

Disabilities Campaign Check Presentations

Financial Secretary Tom Thornton and Grand Knight John Bodensteiner made personal presentations to disburse the funds from the Disabilities Campaign.

"Keep Christ in Christmas" Campaigns

Council 10208 has a two-pronged approach in its campaign to Keep Christ in Christmas this holyday season. A large billboard depicting the nativity scene is being

displayed during November and December on highway 7 on the Village side of Hot Springs - across from the U-Store It/Flea Market site. The sign is made of vinyl and can be used again next year. This project was coordinated by Church Director Tom Yerina.

Keep_Christ_in_Christmas

Secondly, Nativity Scene car magnets are being sold to all Sacred Heart of Jesus parishioners after weekend masses and to anyone else interested in purchasing them. The cost is a very reasonable $5.00 each. The magnets make excellent early Christmas gifts, and giving them to children and grandchildren will spread the message to communities across the country. Profits from this project will help defray the cost of the aforementioned billboard. Warden Bill Hartnett is directing this program with a goal of selling 400 this season (Bill reached his goal by mid-December, thanks to the support of the knights and the Sacred Heart of Jesus parishioners).

"Walking with Karen" Culminates Successfully after Nine Years

Bob and Mary Anne Honzik have been working with the "Walking with Karen" project for over nine years. During this time, they have not only given of themselves and their personal funds, but they have sought assistance from other sources as well, including Council 10208, which has had this project as one of its annual charitable beneficiaries. Now that Karen will be completing her education, this effort is reaching closure with a final gift of $3,000, including the Council's donation of $1,000 from its Disabilities Campaign. Three Join Council & Eleven Knights Advance to 3rd Degree

The Council welcomes three new members, two of whom recently went through the 1st Degree Exemplification in Little Rock and one reactivation. Steve Schramer from Seattle and Bob Pfaffinger from Minnesota are new knights, and Chuck Mac Donald was recently reactivated after having been a knight in Florida. Welcome to the Council!

Within a month eleven Council 10208 members advanced to the 3rd Degree, with seven at Conway and four at Fort Smith. The first group consisted of Jack Barrett, Tony Ciffeli, Tom DeVito, Ernest Folse, Larry Harness, Jim Jendro, and Rolland White. The second group included Steve Schramer, Ray Peters, Bill Roe, and Larry Stein. Congratulations to these knights upon advancing to the 2nd degree emphasizing unity and the 3rd degree focusing on fraternity.

Disabilities Campaign Tops $6000

The October 16 Intellectual Disabilities Campaign raised $6,121.89.Thanks to coordinators Tom Quevillon and Phil Carl, to all the knights who donated money, and to the many volunteer knights for making this event a success, especially after it had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The campaign netted $5,543.07 after expenses. In addition to $831.46 sent to the state council for its 15%portion, $1,000 will support Walking with Karen, $1,000 will go to National Camps for Blind Children, and $2,711 will be sent to First Step School for individuals with developmental issues in Hot Springs.

Ham Sales - Christmas Charity for Local Families in Need

The "Hamsters" kick off sales of Petit Jean products will be at the Council's October 23 Fall Fest to raise funds in support of the Christmas Charity for Local Families in Need campaign. There is a logical tie to the Fall Fest since Petit Jean donates 70 lbs of sliced ham for the Fall Fest fundraiser, but more importantly, the timing is good to get started in the spirit of giving for the holiday season. Buying products for use at home or for gifts to family and friends has the added benefit of helping needy families in the area.

September 2009 Knight and Family of the Month

Larry Lipsmeyer was chosen the September 2009 Knight of the Month for his dedicated service to the parishioners of Sacred Heart.

Bob and Patte Brandt were selected the September 2009 Family of the Month for their long history of service both to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and also to Hot Springs Village.
