Charity in Action!
Knights and their ladies, wearing bright yellow vests, solicited donations at seven Hot Springs Village locations on the first Friday and Saturday of October. Over 5,000 Villagers donated $7,307 during this two-day effort. 111 volunteers stood two-hours or more collecting donations at the Village gates and business locations. All donors received a “Tootsie Roll” gratuity as a thank you from the Knights. This two-day “Tootsie Roll” portion of the Knight’s campaign was only the “tip of the iceberg” of this fundraising campaign.
Council 10208 Knights also asked their 315 members for individual donations. Knights and Knights’ widows dug deep and contributed an additional $6,585.
In celebration of the success of these many CPID efforts, an “Oktoberfest” dinner took place on the final Saturday of the campaign. A silent auction at the dinner enabled non-monetary gift-donations to be turned into cash for contribution to the campaigns several charitable recipients. An additional $2,350 in “Oktoberfest” receipts added to campaign’s final total of $25,000!
The local charities that will benefit from this campaign include the Special Olympics, Arkansas Camp for the Blind, First Step, Abilities Unlimited, The Caring Place, and ARC Arkansas—all which provide services and care for the intellectually challenged neighbors in the local area. One hundred percent of the monies collected will go to recipient charities.
The Daniel Patrick Sullivan Council 10208 of the Knights of Columbus gratefully thanks all the volunteers, Village residents, local businesses, the KVRE Radio Station, and the Village Voice Newspaper for their collective community outreach generosity.
Special Olympics CEO Terri Weir |
During the October 2017 Member's meeting, the Council welcomed the gifted, dedicated, talented, and dynamic Executive Director and CEO of the Arkansas Special Olympics, Terri Weir. The Grand Knight, Sir Knight Tom Donnelly stated that he first met Terri several years ago, and she’s been an exceptional supporter of our Knights of Columbus efforts at Harding University in Searcy as we set up, run, and dismantle the Olympic Village each year. She arranges and pays our motel accommodations, provides robust young folks to help set up tents, she provides us tables, chairs, water, a fine reception, tee-shirts, and myriad other necessities to make our Special Olympics’ efforts successful. We reciprocate each year with a generous charitable donation to her most worthy cause. Ms. Weir made a wonderful presentation on her organization and was very generous in her appreciation to what our Council does every year supporting the Arkansas Special Olympics.
Knight of the Month Gerald Krawczynski |
Last April, Sir Knight Gerald Krawczynski celebrated 50 years as a Knight of Columbus. He has been a member of this Council for over 17 years. After retiring from the Supreme Council Agency in 2007, he became more involved with the State and local Knights’ activities. He was recognized as Agent of the Year by the Supreme Council for 2004 and 2005. Sir Knight Krawczynski served as Arkansas State Council Fund Raising Director from 2007 to 2012, and as the State Warden from 2008 to 2010. He was recognized and Awarded the State Knight of the Year in 2014.
Gerald is a member of the Arkansas State Council Fourth Degree Exemplification Team, and the District 10 Second Degree Team. He’s currently our Council’s Family Director and the State’s Pennies from Heaven Director and serves on our Council’s 1st Degree Team. Gerald participates as a member of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard in our local Assembly, served as our Council’s Financial Secretary from 2012 to 2015, and was our Council Treasurer from 2015 to 2017. Currently he’s our Council’s Family Director, generates our certificates and proclamations, serves as an Extraordinary Minister and a Lector for the parish, and participates in and helps with the administration of our Perpetual Adoration Program.
Gerald credits his membership and activities in the Knights of Columbus as one of his major accomplishments in his lifetime. Throughout his journey as a Knight he has had the wonderful support of Ann, his loving wife of 56 years. We’re honored to have such a dedicated Knight in our Council and it’s a pleasure to present Gerald with our Knight of the Month of September Certificate

On Sunday, 24 September 2017, Council 10208 exemplified three new members--Rick Phillips, Al Hanschmann, and Nick DeMarco. The new Brother Knights are welcomed additions to our Council and represent the first of several in this new fraternal year. They all are eager to start their journey in Knighthood and will require several brothers to assist in their integration. Welcome Brothers.
Murray Claassen - August 2017 Knight of the Month |
Congratulations, Murray for your well deserved recognition for the impact your actions have had in the Council.
Bill and Mary Lou George - September 2017 Family of the Month |
Bill participates in the Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities, he’s active in the Men’s Club, ushers at the 8:00 AM Sunday Masses, and serves as our Council’s Community Director overseeing 16 venues and most revenue generating events. There are so many Parish Life, Knight, LOSH and other events Bill and Mary Lou participate in, I can’t begin to list them all without omitting some.
Brothers and Sisters, it is a pleasure to recognize the Georges for their long-standing support of our Council, our parish, and to recognize them as an exemplary family of the month for September.

The Sacristy alter area had a picture of Fr. McGivney, flowers provided by the Council, the National ensign, Vatican flag, and Knights of Columbus flag. All Lectures and Servers, the Chaplain, and three Knight Deacons participated in the Mass. Fr. Bill Elser's homily emphasized the work of the Founder and the current organizational focus upon charity and love of God.
A reception was held immediately following the Mass. Fifty-six Knights and their ladies and three Knight widows attended.
Lynn Ables Teen Challenge |
Tom Donnelly, of Council 10208 in Hot Springs Village, explained that an anonymous benefactor, donating to the Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities (CPID), asked if a donation for Teen Challenge would be accepted by the Knights. Of course the donation was gladly accepted, and this charitable outreach was passed along to Teen Challenge.
